Spicy Som Tum Thai (ส้มตำไทย)

🌶🥗🌿 (Bangkok’s Spicy Street Food) Spicy Som Tum Thai
The perfect harmony of heat, sweetness, tang, and crunch – a Thai street food icon!

🥣 Ingredients:
– 1 medium green papaya, peeled and shredded
– 2 carrots, peeled and shredded
– 10 cherry tomatoes, halved
– 2 cloves of garlic, minced
– 4 small red chilies, finely sliced (adjust for heat preference)
– 2 tablespoons fish sauce
– 1 tablespoon palm sugar, grated (or brown sugar)
– Juice of 1 lime
– A handful of roasted peanuts, crushed
– Fresh green beans, a small bunch, trimmed and halved
– 1 tablespoon dried shrimp (optional)

🧑‍🍳 Preparation:
1. In a large mortar, pound garlic, chilies, green beans, and cherry tomatoes to release their flavors.
2. Add shredded green papaya and carrots to the mix; pound lightly.
3. In a small bowl, dissolve palm sugar in fish sauce and lime juice; pour over the salad.
4. Mix well, ensuring the dressing coats everything evenly.
5. Garnish with crushed peanuts, and serve in the mortar with fresh vegetables on the side for a lively, colorful presentation.
